The Tranby Clarksons 1829-1929

The Tranby Clarksons 1829 - 1929
a family history of the Tranby Clarksons by their children’s childrens’ children

Father was always interested in family histories. After he retired he decided to review our family and their story, culminating in this book, in 1995.

A few copies are still available (including a small supplement of 1996 with all corrections detailed – he was a lawyer, after all!) and a complete family tree of descendants of the Tranby Clarksons from Michael Clarkson (1804-1871) and brother James Smith Clarkson (1806-1872) up to 1995. It describes the trials and challenges, growing pains and successes of the young colony, ‘the early British settlement in the Avon Valley’ covering Perth and Toodyay though the eyes of the Clarksons of the time.

It documents interesting dilemmas sometimes unanswered, including why his wife Jain Clarkson nee Drummond shows Jane on her death certificate? There are many more, some not even addressed in any detail in the book, but which somehow seem to survive and pass down the family over generations.

Oh, and to order the book – this one is just $14.99 pp included in Australia –  just tell us the title, the address for the mailling label and payment method like this (copy and paste into an email? With your encouragement we’ll find a better way, but until then…):

  1. Can I have one for free. It is for school work.

  2. Emily – thanks for your email. Sorry for the delay, but if you can contact me directly using your education-system email address (e.g. one with .edu or edu.au at the end) then I am sure we can come to some arrangement.

Youe response would abe appreciated

  4. Hi Barbara and thanks for your message.

I’m currently overseas so I’ll forward your request to my brother in Perth. Are you collecting material for the Honouring ANZACs website, or another one? Regarding your book request: If you were able to pick the book up it would be faster than awaiting postage and easier for us too. And yes, we do have some good pictures, including the one on the cover in his greatcoat, taken in early 1918. Have you seen that, and would it be suitable?

I will include you in an email shortly.
    Cheers, Barnard Clarkson
